Flash
set refers to the rigidity of the cement paste which can occur within 5-10
minutes of mixing with water and is referred to as irreversible rigidity. This is caused by the formation of aluminate
hydrate due to high content of C3A and / or a small amount of easily
soluble calcium sulphate.
Cement produced with this behavior is unsuitable to use.
Flash set - Rapid rigidity with considerable heat generation, plasticity cannot be regained.
It differs from False set in that appreciable heat evolution takes
place & that the plasticity of the paste can not be restored.
